Anti:modern. Salzburg in the Heart of Europe between Tradition and Renewal

Is Salzburg indeed anti-modern, as is repeatedly claimed? Based on this provocative thesis, the book accompanying the exhibition (23 July–6 November 2016) paints a differentiated picture of modernism as a case study in the center of Europe. Using case studies from literature, dance, theater, music, society, politics and science, the volume examines modern tendencies in the politically unstable period of the 1920s and 1930s, and shows the far-reaching consequences of thinking and acting in opposition to modern life.
