This publication documents and negotiates the two-year exhibition project Utopia and Monument at steirischer herbst 2009 and 2010. The focus was set on two special themes: the privatization of public space in 2009 and virtuosity and public space in 2010. In this exhibition for the public space, two concepts that had largely disappeared from the debate on the public sphere were provocatively put up for discussion: utopia as a space of possibility and the monument as a space of memory.
